Spring, Art, and Joy

What a whirlwind Spring has been. Cooler temps, slower gardening and a flurry of art activities has kept me away from my website. There is only so much time in a day!

I am so pleased to invite you to many events in the coming months to see my kinetic artwork, visit Petaluma Arts Center for the BLACK ARTISTS OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA that I am guest curating, and the fun places I get to land this Spring. The exhibition hosts 27 artists and me. The artists were selected by me for their beauty, storytelling and vibrant images. The artists are from Santa Cruz to Sacramento, to Sonoma County, essentially, my world of art. I hope you are available to come and see this collection and if you are of a mind to share in our events, we are looking for more sponsors to help with the project and to benefit Petaluma Arts Center.

Donors can contribute to the arts center here: petalumaartscenter.org/donor

I have been working on a few other projects this Spring. You can now find these WardWorksArt kinetic sculptures at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art gift store. These pieces were inspired by their current art exhibition, A Tow to Carry, the Artwork of Arthur Monroe. Arthur Monroe, abstract artist whose work is stunning, large beautiful abstractions of colors that look like jazz. The exhibition is on until September, so there is plenty of time to stop in. 05.11.24 - 09.08.24

Arthur Monroe: A Tow to Carry

This retrospective of the late Oakland-based artist Arthur Monroe draws from seven decades, 1958 - 2011. He was my direction, my muse for the art created to honor his work.

DUNIYA, The word ‘Duniya' is actually an Arabic word, that has subsequently been adapted into Persian and then in Urdu and then in Hindi languages, but the meaning remained the same i.e. ‘the world’ or ‘the worldly life’. Denise Ward, 2024

You are also invited to the art opening at Sonoma Clean Power on June 6th at their headquarters. My sculpture, DUNIYA, THE WORLD is on view.

Exhibit runs: June 6 to October 12, 2024

The public is invited to the Opening Reception Thursday, June 6, 3-6pm, for this exhibit by 13 local professional artists at its new all-electric, “grid optimal” headquarters. There will also be a Closing Reception on the last day, Saturday, October 12, 1-4pm.

Go to the website to RSVP your attendance at the reception or If you can’t make it to the reception, you may  arrange a visit during business hours.

Yes, I am still making that wacky fun jewelry. You will find these at Santa Rosa Original Farmers Market on Saturdays, the occasional (next up 4 June) Healdsburg Tuesday Farmers Market. If you are near Oakmont, I will be setting up at a winery across the street from Oakmont.

I hope to see you along these traveling days. Wowsers! Denise
