A Different World, than Where I Came From

PETALUMA ARTS CENTER, WARDWORKSART Kinetic Sculptures 2020

We are now into 5+ weeks of STAY. HOME. SAFE. It has been as strange a time in my life as I can remember. Some days are easy, cleaning up the stuff from a cleared out storage unit, laundry, all that other stuff, gardening, meal/grocery/planning. That hits the surface. What lies beneath is a tangle of emotions I’m not used to. A brave new world. A disaster. Humanity and hearts rising together. And the skunks still smell up the good going on. And the daily creating of a life in limbo. Some days are great, some days…well gardening is filling up the parts that don’t quite make sense. Art has be simply arrested by my emotions, at least for March.

So April 17th and now I’m back to work. New art is flaring up: a new kinetic art series, new earring designs and a collaboration between polymer clay and steel to create a bigger project. Can’t get this finished soon enough. Yes, I get excited about my work. It means that I believe in spite of everything, I can work at what matters most to me, the art.

WardWorksArt now has a gift certificate if you are interested in purchasing or passing on the cert to family or friends. I’ve seeking ways to support myself and friends in the arts and the solution was simple. I’m selling my kinetic sculptures to support San Francisco Jazz Center, The Museum of African Diaspora, Art Escape Sonoma and Petaluma Arts Center. Each location will receive a donation of 50% of the sale of my art.

You can find the sculptures in KINETIC ART in the SHOP section on the website. In this effort I am supporting the places where I have been supported as an artist. And with SF Jazz, this is a place where my soul has come alive, in my musical home in The City. And if you are interested in purchasing a different sculpture than those that are designated for these institutions, please feel free to let me know.

I encourage you to help support the places where the people you like, restaurants you love, and special handmade items were purchased from your favorite artists, bakers, chefs and all the small businesses you’ve loved. It will take all of us who care to keep this evolving world health event to be safe, an opportunity to grow, to love, to care. We will make it through this time of COVID-19.

WE ARE STRONGER WHEN WE ARE TOGETHER.

Love to you, stay safe, wash hands, wear masks, love others - Denise
